Calgary (map) is a fast growing city with over a million people! Located within an emotionally charged view of the Canadian Rockies to the West and Prairies to the East. Calgary has a modern downtown core with an efficient Light Rapid Transit system and many SkyScrapers situated on the edge of the Bow River. If you love the outdoors, Nose Hill Park in the north, Fish Creek Provincial park in the city's south, and the parklands along the banks of the Bow and Elbow rivers will keep you occupied all summer with endless kilometers of biking and walking pathways. Canada Olympic Park is just on the edge of the city giving you Skiing and Snow Boarding all winter long and Mountain Biking throughout the summer. And of course, Calgary is only an hour drive to the scenic wonders of Banff and the Rocky Mountains!
Calgary's weather features wide-open blue skies with warm summer days and cool evenings. Calgary’s winter’s can be unpredictable with cold prairie winds however the famous Chinook’s can bring spring like temperatures in just a few hours. Newcomer’s to Calgary often find their spring gardens covered in snow in April and May with surprises from Mother Nature.
When searching for a home, the city is broken into 4 quadrants. The northern half of the city is typically cooler than the Southern half with cool strong winds twisting down the river valley. If you prefer lots of mature growth, the city’s SW is the place to live. If you like a new community and want to have a house built, the NW is sprawling with new communities and development. Calgary’s inner city communities are experiencing a transformation with many of the older homes being replaced with new city “in-fill’s” giving a modern appeal in trendy communities.
